COMMISSIONER FOR OATHS
A commissioner for Oaths stamp is only valid in the same province he/she is certified in to endorse affirmations and declarations-they can also take and receive affidavits or administer oaths.
NOTARY PUBLIC:
A Notary Public has all the powers of a Commissioner for Oaths, and can also witness or certify, and attest, the execution of a document, and certify and attest documents to be true copies of the original (ss. 3(1) and 4(1) of the Act).
Proper identification (photo ID such as a valid driver's license, current passport or any other government-issued photo identification must be present at the signing.
Please note, the content of an affidavit is the responsibility of the person whose signature is being commissioned (the deponent).
